3. Here's a photo of my long term performance (to raise empathy and awareness of homelessness while blurring the distinctions between art & life, performed inside the cultural center before I was told to move due to being a fire hazard and had to relocate to another area inside; many of the other performers didn't realize it was me at first) from Fluxfest Chicago last year.

The town I live in just passed an anti-discrimination ordinance, prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual preference or gender expression. Bathroom panic— paranoia that straight male perverts will disguise themselves as transgendered people to gain access to ladies restrooms!— forced an amendment to the bill, virtually mandating discrimination against transgendered people in locker rooms and rest rooms. The level of self-righteous bigotry is dismaying, but it’s a start!

This slogan is a terrific example of how deeply embedded homophobia is, especially as most straight people and even some gay people don't get the problem with this slogan right away.

This is the bus stop for the "Infierno" neighborhood of Donostia-San Sebastián in the Basque Country of Spain. "Infierno" as you probably guessed, translates as "Hell." It seems that 80 years ago or so, they were building the highway that passes nearby and cut down a prodigious number of trees, which they ended up burning here. The burning went on for days, and the smoke and flames prompted people to call this area "Infierno." Most of the buildings look like what you see in the background, so it still looks like hell.
